Job-Site Safety Institute Innovative Safety Idea of the Year

Winchester Precast LogoWinchester Precast – Winchester, Virginia
With the presence of Coronavirus, as well as other diseases present in the workplace, commonly touched surfaces become a hazard in 2020. Winchester Precast designed and fabricated a touchless drink dispenser so employees can stay hydrated without having to touch a spigot when getting a drink. The device is a battery powered pump attached to a standard plastic water cooler that can dispense a drink without having to touch any part of the dispenser. It is equipped with a proximity sensor to detect when an employee positions a cup under the spout and automatically fills any size cup. A UV light constantly shines on the spout to disinfect it should an employee touch it with their hand or a used cup. The functionality of the system is enhanced by battery power that lasts 50 gallons on a charge, so it can be used even if there is no electricity in the area. A solar charger can be installed to keep the battery continuously charged. The pump can be adapted to any size plastic cooler by changing the length of the suction tube. Components of the system are made with food-grade materials.
