Winter 2019 Edition
In this Issue
It is that time of year again, as you know, electronically signing the yearly guidelines are a requirement to remain an active NAHB instructor. Please go to www.nahb.org/InstructorGuidelines to review and sign them. The deadline to sign is by the end of the day Monday, March 4, 2019. After this date, you will be suspended.
Due to the time and effort it takes to reapprove an instructor who wants to be reinstated after being suspended for not signing the guidelines, the instructor will incur a $15 reinstatement fee. Please only renew if you would be able to instruct in the event you are contacted to do so. The instructor directory is meant to be used as an accurate representation of those who are willing to teach if contacted. If you cannot continue to make this commitment, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
and you are removed from the communications.
The International Builders’ Show will be held in Las Vegas this year from February 19 - 21. The Pre-Show courses take place on Saturday, February 16 through Monday February18. For more information and to register, please visit www.Buildersshow.com.

Say hello to Meredith Oliver. Meredith is one of our Sales and Marketing Instructors. A third generation teacher on both sides of her family; Meredith has been either an in-house trainer for her employer or a professional speaker for her own company her entire career. “I’ve never not been teaching someone something” she said.
Once Meredith earned her MIRM designation in 2002, her next goal was to become an instructor for NAHB. Achieving her goal, she has taught courses with us ever since. She recently taught our Principles of Residential Marketing: Strategy & Implementation course for us in the Live Online format this past November. Meredith was a part of the core team who, in 2013 and 2014, rewrote the IRM courses in the current format where the first part is taught online and then you build on what you’ve learned in a classroom setting.
Not only is Meredith involved with NAHB as an instructor, she has also been a member of boards and committees. She’s been a trustee on the NSMC Board of Governors for six years. Meredith is the current chair of the NSMC Communication Committee as well as the past Chair of the PWB Communication Committee (National) and a member of the Raleigh Wake HBA and the North Carolina HBA.
When asked what she hopes students will take away from her class she responded “My goal is to add real world scenarios and expertise to the curriculum so students can immediately apply what they’ve learned. I also strive to encourage participation because I believe the students can learn a lot from each other.”
We appreciate Meredith and all of our instructors for their continued support of the NAHB Education program.
Starting January 1, 2019, both Business Management for Building Professionals and Housing Construction as a Selling Tool are no longer available in a classroom format. Business Management has been added to the NAHB On-Demand Education Course list and Housing Construction will be added to the list in the spring.
As of now there are no plans to have the courses brought back into the classroom. If you have any questions about these courses or any course and our revision schedule, please contact Paul Tingler at email@example.com.
NAHB has been successfully offering designation courses in a live online webinar format for a few years. The courses are over 3 consecutive weeks and delivered in 2 hour sessions held on Tuesdays from 1-3 pm ET. Instructors are compensated to work with the Director, Instructional Design & E-learning with dividing up the content into three two hour modules, helping to translate live course activities into online activities, provide content for the discussion forum in the Learning Management System (LMS), and instruct the course. We are able to conduct Adobe Connect training if you are not familiar with the platform. If you would like to be considered as an instructor for this format, please complete this application so we can reach out to you when we evaluate instructor candidates for courses. If you have questions, please contact Tatiana Molina (firstname.lastname@example.org).
- Don’t forget to add your picture to your NAHB profiles. This will also carry to the Instructor Directory and helps put a name to a face when HBAs are browsing the directory for instructors. The steps to complete this are below.
- Go to “My Profile” from the red welcome button when logged into nahb.org
- Next to “Profile Picture” click on “Choose File”, you’ll choose the photo from the folder you have saved it in on your computer.
- Then click “Upload New Image”. Your picture should appear in the photo space to the left. It may take a couple of hours but it should appear on the instructor directory same day.
Email email@example.com if it does not appear within 24 hours of upload.
