Among other awards, she has NAHB’s prestigious Associate of the Year Award and was recently awarded NAHB Educator of the Year (CGB).

We sat down with Beverly to get to know her a little better:

What is your favorite thing about being an NAHB instructor?
The interaction with wonderful, eager participants. Every time I instruct a class, I walk away with a plethora of knowledge and experiences that I can share with others and use myself. What a gift!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten?
Never focus solely on the dollars. Focus on what you can give to others, and the dollars will come in buckets!

What is your favorite course to teach?
Without question, Customer Service. It brings it all together.

What drew you to the building industry?
Desperation. I had been a fairly well-paid, respected manager for Texas Instruments, then relocated to San Antonio and simply couldn’t find a job. Turned out to be the best rejection of my life.

What’s your favorite TV show?
“The Andy Griffith Show.” It ages me I know, but I still love it.  Wish there was more clean humor on the set today.  We could all benefit from it.

What are some of your hobbies?
Reading, power walking, and most importantly, volunteering for the University of Texas Health Cancer Center. I chair the San Antonio Cancer Council, which raises cancer awareness in South Texas as well as hundreds of thousands of dollars for cancer research and treatment.

What’s your favorite vacation spot?
The Mediterranean.

What’s your favorite movie?
“Lonesome Dove.”

Dog person or cat person?
Love them both but have none at the present.

What’s your favorite sports team?
The San Antonio SPURS and Texas Longhorns!

What is one thing in your career you could go back and change if you could?
I would get my PhD.  I would love to teach at the university level.

I’m a busy builder with a lot on my plate - why should I make time for education?
Because knowledge makes you stronger, better, more productive and profitable. You, and more importantly, your customers deserve it!
