Wayne Visbeen, AIA, IIDA, Founder of Visbeen Architects, Inc., is an architect with more than 30 years experience in retail, residential, commercial design and visual merchandising. He attended the pre-architecture program at Calvin College and transferred to Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan, where he received Undergraduate and Graduate degrees in Architecture.
Wayne Visbeen began his career with The Taubman Companies, one of the nation’s top retail developers. As a senior designer, Visbeen was responsible for master planning shopping centers and completed more than 100 national retail prototypes. He then moved to the Grand Rapids, Michigan area and became Director of Store Design, Visual Merchandising and Advertising at Gantos, Inc., a Michigan based women’s fashion retailer.
In 1992, Wayne Visbeen founded Visbeen Architects, Inc. in Grand Rapids, Michigan to provide architectural, interior design, visual merchandising and fixture design services to retailers. Presently, Visbeen and his team handle a balance of residential, commercial and retail projects with a focus on custom residential home design. The firm has become known for master planning charrettes for various residential and commercial projects throughout the world and has completed projects in 48 US states and 10 countries. In addition, Visbeen Architects has been the recipient of many local and national awards, including the National Association of Home Builders’ awards for “Best Custom Home in the Midwest & South Atlantic Regions” and the American Institute of Building Design’s “Best in Show” award.
