How to Join: Membership Categories

NAHB serves the entire home building, development and remodeling industry. To become a member of NAHB, you must join the local home builders association (HBA) serving your area. Find it with our online locator.

About one-third of NAHB’s members are home builders, multifamily developers, and/or remodelers, while the remaining two-thirds work in closely related fields such as mortgage financing and building products.

When you join your local association, you automatically become a member of all three levels of the NAHB federation: local, state (where state associations exist), and national. That’s three memberships for the price of one!

  • Builder Members. Builders are the heart and soul of NAHB. Builder members are directly involved in building homes. They include small-volume builders, production builders, light commercial builders and remodelers. To learn more about the benefits of membership or for help getting started, contact Greg Morrison at 1-800-368-5242 x8337.
  • Associate Members. These are the people who sell lumber, windows, appliances, etc. or offer services such as mortgage finance. To learn more about associate membership, contact Topher McLarty at 1-800-368-5242 x8247.
  • Affiliate Members. This category enables the employees of builder and associate members to reap the rewards of NAHB membership at a fraction of the cost. Not every HBA offers affiliate memberships, so please check with your local association for availability. To learn more, contact Greg Morrison at 1-800-368-5242 x8337.

Global building industry professionals from more than 50 countries are eligible to apply for membership with the National Association of Home Builders. Learn more about the benefits of global membership, purchase your global membership, or contact NAHB Global at 1-202-368-5242 x8598.

Leading building suppliers and service providers can participate in NAHB activities, affect housing issues, and gain direct access to NAHB members by joining The NAHB Leading Suppliers Council: distinguished building industry suppliers as well as related building industry trade associations and builder service providers.

To learn more, please contact Tucker Bernard at 1-800-368-5242 x8247.

Every day, high school and college students in construction programs are learning skills to prepare for the exciting opportunities within the building industry. NAHB's Student Chapter program is dedicated to enriching students’ educational experience, and offers first-hand exposure to the real world of the building industry through membership, educational programming and networking opportunities. Get more details! You can also send us an e-mail or call 1-800-266-8941.

NAHB Student Chapter members can also apply for Alumni membership at a greatly discounted rate for their first three years after graduation from their high school or college program. Student Chapter Alumni membership is NAHB’s way of making sure building industry professionals and trade partners understand the advantages of association membership from the beginning of their careers.

NAHB councils and other special interest groups target specific disciplines within the home building industry and give members with common interests the opportunity to exchange ideas, further their education, and develop policies that benefit their areas of interest. Learn more about each of the councils to see which one is the right fit for you.
