“Beautiful Necessities,” the master suite bathroom in an Oro Valley, Ariz., single-family home, was named the Room of the Year today in the 2017 Best in American Living Awards (BALA) by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
Combining clean lines and creative details, architect/designer Soloway Designs and interior designer Lori Carroll & Associates achieved the client’s vision of innovative, distinctive styling in a calm, comfortable room.
The space is bathed in natural light, with an expansive window overlooking the rugged desert landscape. Materials that define modern design—glass, tile and wood—establish a clean simplicity that, paired with luxurious amenities, create an inviting, soothing retreat.
At the same time, the suspended mirror—which serves as a room partition—joystick faucets, and distinctive custom-built vanities give the room a distinctive flair.
BALA judges commended the layering of textures in the room, and appreciated the thoughtful, innovative touches that make the room funky and fun.
“Great design taps into the emotions that make a house a home,” said Tom Kopf, NAHB’s 2017 Judging Chair and 2017 Best in American Living Awards Subcommittee Chair. “The BALA program celebrates the designers and builders as ‘the best of the best.’ ”
In its 34th year, BALA recognizes outstanding achievement by builders and design professionals in all sectors of the residential housing industry including single-family production, custom, rental, affordable, interiors, remodeling, community and international. Award winners were announced at the annual NAHB International Builders’ Show in Orlando.
