Why Join the NAHB Multifamily Council?

The NAHB Multifamily Council represents NAHB members who build multifamily housing of all types. NAHB created the council to address issues that are specific to multifamily and affordable housing. The NAHB Multifamily Council helps its members build expertise and connections, advocate for productive building policies and regulations, and prepare for new opportunities and unexpected problems.

Companies run by Multifamily Council members reported a median dollar volume three times greater than those that are not run by a council member.

That’s because Multifamily Council members share business information and strategies and work with NAHB’s Government Affairs and Housing Finance departments to advocate for a sensible regulatory environment and reasonable building code provisions.

Benefits of Membership

Advocacy Icon

Advocacy - Multifamily Council members gain a seat at the table regarding NAHB multifamily housing policy, our efforts on effective and reasonable building codes and safety regulations and advocacy with Congress and federal agencies. Council members work with NAHB’s Government Affairs, Economics, Housing Finance and Regulatory departments to advocate for sensible and productive policies and regulations at the federal level that will benefit multifamily housing and housing generally. NAHB also engages in multifamily advocacy at the state and local level when critical issues emerge, such as rent control.

Expertise - The council provides members with access to exclusive NAHB research and information specific to the multifamily industry. Council members receive Hotline, a bi-monthly newsletter, quarterly economic updates on multifamily market trends, as well as a quarterly outlook on multifamily development and investment. NAHBs Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) works on a diverse array of legal matters, and Multifamily Council members can reach out to staff attorneys for assistance with a variety of legal issues. The OLA also administers the Legal Action Fund, a service designed to assist NAHB members with ongoing cases.

Knowledge - Council members have access to numerous complimentary webinars and webinar recordings on multifamily housing issues, such as building codes, green building, effective communications, and marketing/leasing. Multifamily Council members also have access to a variety of educational programs offered online and via other venues, including building basics, design/build, building technology, project management, green building, financial management, business management, and housing credit certified professional training.

Multifamily Council members are also invited to participate in council meetings and other programs at two NAHB Board of Directors meetings each year. These meetings provide an intimate forum for networking and learning. Members and non-members can also connect and network in our Multifamily Council LinkedIn Group.
