The Credential - December 2016

December 2016

Chairman’s Message

Greetings, HCCPs – and welcome to the final 2016 edition of The Credential.

Another year has come and gone. As we close out this year and prepare to begin the next, budgeting and record-keeping are hot items on many of our minds.  In this edition of The Credential, you’ll find the second part of last issue’s budgeting tips for LIHTC properties, and a detailed guidance on how to develop a LIHTC record keeping system. Both of these articles offer timely and practical tips you can implement in your own policies and procedures.

This edition is also packed with a variety of compliance topics. We are pleased to present a webcast transcript excerpt featuring a discussion on the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s criminal arrest record guidance with HUD Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Lourdes Castro Ramirez.

In the third article of our Back to Basics series you will be reminded of how student status affects household eligibility, and in another article you’ll learn more about the role maintenance plays with  compliance. Finally, in our spotlight articles you will get the chance to learn more about HCCP Missy Covington, HCCP Board of Governors member Bill Harris, and HCCP exam distributor Karen Graham.

I’d like to provide a reminder that the 2016 HCCP webinars are free and provide a great way to meet your continuing education requirements. Our final webinar of the year will focus on the LIHTC student rules from the perspective of federal, state, and other housing programs and we are excited to have Scott Michael Dunn from Costello Companies discussing this topic. The webinar, entitled “Back to School: Avoiding Deadly Mistakes with Students at Section 42 Housing” will be held Dec. 15.  Click here and use promo code DECHCCP to register for free. I hope you will be able to join.

It has been an honor serving as chair of the HCCP Board of Governors for the past year. On behalf of the board, thank you for all that you do to promote the HCCP designation and the LIHTC program.  We wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday season.

In service,

Matt Rayburn
