The Credential - December 2024
Hello and Welcome to the December 2024 Edition of The Credential!
As we close out 2024, it is both an honor and a pleasure to reflect on the achievements and progress of our Housing Credit Certified Professional (HCCP) community. This year has brought significant change, growth, and a renewed commitment to upholding the highest standards of excellence in affordable housing.
The landscape of affordable housing continues to evolve, with the demands of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program challenging us to adapt and innovate. From navigating regulatory updates such as the Housing Opportunity Through Modernization Act (HOTMA) to leveraging technology for more efficient processes such as income verification, our industry faces complex issues that require us to stay informed, proactive and collaborative.
One of the year’s key highlights has been the increased engagement across our network. Through webinars, training programs, and regional meetings, the HCCP community has showcased an inspiring commitment to professional development. What truly sets us apart is this dedication to continuous learning and creating a collaborative environment where knowledge-sharing and mentorship thrive.
Continuing the tradition of knowledge-sharing, this edition of The Credential features a rich collection of articles and insights. Inside, you’ll find:
- Back to Basics Again, Part 2 by Scott Michael Dunn
- Harnessing Artificial Intelligence to Transform LIHTC Communities by Karen Graham
- Modernizing Affordable Housing: The Shift to Upfront Income Verification by Erica Etterling and myself
- HOTMA Policy Update by Kelly Wakefield and Carrie Odum
- HCCP Year in Review by Farleigh Lichstein
We will also host a webinar, “The Many Faces of HOTMA: Adapting to LIHTC Implementation Challenges,” on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. ET.
Additionally, we spotlight outstanding members of our community: Barbara Kethler, Kelly Wakefield and Missy Covington. This edition is packed with valuable insights and updates.
As the 2024 chair, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to lead such a dedicated and dynamic group of professionals. To my fellow board members, distributors, TAG members, NAHB and the entire HCCP community, thank you for your hard work, your passion for our mission, and your unwavering commitment to the residents and communities we serve.
Here’s to another year of progress, purpose, and partnership. I am excited to see what we will accomplish together in 2025!
