How to Earn Your CGR
The Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR) is designed to emphasize business and project management skills as the key to a successful remodeling operation. The CGR curriculum helps you run your business more efficiently by teaching job cost procedures, accounting principles and basic contract law. Other topics covered include design, estimating and scheduling.
Curriculum and Other Requirements
- A minimum of five years of experience in the remodeling business
- Completion of the Professional Remodeler Experience Profile (PREP)*
- Completion of the courses required by the results of the PREP*
- Complete and submit the online CGR graduation application or print version
- Adhere to and submit signed copy of the CGR Code of Ethics pledge
Required Business Documentation
- Submit proof of liability and workers’ compensation insurance for yourself, or be an employee of a company that holds both (where required by local jurisdiction).
- A valid business license (if state-required)
- A letter of sponsorship from your employer

Annual Renewal Fees

Effective Jan. 1, 2022, designees who have lapsed longer than one year from their renewal date will pay a $50 reinstatement fee in addition to the renewal fee.
Continuing Education Requirement
NAHB designees are required to complete four hours or credits each year. Designees are NOT required to send in proof of continuing education (CE) earned at time of renewal. However, designees may be chosen for a random audit and NAHB will contact them directly to provide proof of CE. View continuing education requirements for NAHB designations.
