NAHB’s Legal Action Committee provides financial support to NAHB members and state and local home builders associations (HBAs) engaged in setting precedent and taking important legal actions. The committee will meet again at the 2023 International Builders’ Show to consider grants from the Legal Action Fund.
The Legal Action Fund provides monetary and strategic assistance to members or HBAs involved in litigation or other legal actions. If you are actively engaged in, or even considering, a legal action that could help other builders, apply for financial support today.
Many NAHB members and HBAs have received monetary and strategic support from the Legal Action Fund. Common issues include zoning and land use, impact fees, water rights, labor rules and construction defect issues. But all cases are welcome, so apply today even if you’re thinking about a legal challenge.
At the 2022 Fall Leadership Meeting, the NAHB Legal Action Committee recommended Legal Action Fund assistance for two member applications:
- NAHB provided a grant to a member in coordination with the Helena BIA (Montana) to help fund member intervention at the state Court. The issue, concerning exemption provisions for subdivision of developments, is one that could have a large impact on how property is subdivided in Montana.
- An NAHB Member from Oklahoma received funding as they continue their challenge over zoning and water utility issues in its latest residential construction project.
The Legal Action Committee will next consider Legal Action Fund applications on Friday, Jan. 30 in Las Vegas. Applications are due to the Office of Legal Affairs on Friday Jan. 6.
