NAHB Recognizes Standout Associate Members for Contributions to the Home-Building Industry
The Associates of Excellence Awards honor Associate members for their remarkable contributions to the housing industry at the local, state and national levels in the following categories:
- Associate of the Year
- Associate Advocate of BUILD-PAC
The Associates of Excellence Awards also recognize a Builder member for his or her partnership with Associate members through the Builders Engaging Associate Members (BEAM) Award. This year’s winner is Bill Truex of Truex Preferred Construction in Englewood, Fla.
Truex is exemplary of this award for many reasons including his passion for NAHB membership and doing business with a member. He first asks potential trade partners if they are a member of Charlotte-DeSoto BIA (CDBIA). The result: All of his trade partners are members of his local home builders association (HBA).
Byron Anderson — the 2021 Associate of the Year — also understands the importance of local involvement. As a member of the Southwest Montana Building Industry Association (SWMBIA), he has twice been honored as its Associate of the Year in 2005 and 2013, and the local Associate Member Achievement award. He has served as membership chair and achieved Life Delegate status at the state and local levels, and served as associate vice president in the Montana Building Industry Association (MBIA), who also honored him as State Associate of the Year in 2006 and 2014.
State and local organizations are able to make a larger impact in their communities through BUILD-PAC, NAHB’s political action committee, which recognizes the most outstanding Associate member advocate on the local, state and national levels through the Associate Advocate of BUILD-PAC Award. The 2021 honoree — Jim Pigott with The Pigott Agency in Mechanicsburg, Penn. — is a Senior Life Delegate and active, long-time member of the Harrisburg Builders Association, Pennsylvania HBA and NAHB. Pigott has been involved in BUILD-PAC for more than 25 years and has been a Gold Key member since 1995.
The recipients were recognized at the 2022 International Builders’ Show in Orlando.
The ceremony also spotlighted the latest inductee to the Society of Honored Associates, Carol Morgan of Denim Marketing in the Greater Atlanta metro area. Inductees into the Society encourage others to get more involved with the association and serve as a model to those looking to get involved on the national level.
“ Volunteering for NAHB is about supporting the industry and ultimately replacing ourselves to ensure the future and longevity of the organization,” Morgan said. “Mentoring members who are just getting involved at the national level and helping them to find a path is something I enjoy doing.”
