The U.S. Senate recently passed a bipartisan resolution designating September as National Workforce Development Month
, highlighting the importance of equipping Americans with the education and training necessary to advance their careers and rebuild our economy.
With increased attention on skills training, now is the time to raise awareness about career paths available in the residential construction industry. NAHB has a variety of tools and information to help promote the skilled trades, including:
- Workforce Development Resources. NAHB has a trove of materials designed to educate and promote careers in construction including promotional posters, brochures, customizable presentations, salary data by profession and sample social media messages.
- Tools for Educators and Students. Lesson plans, mentoring opportunities, internship and scholarship information are also available on the workforce development resource page on nahb.org.
- Career Development Connections. The Home Builders Institute, a nonprofit organization and partner in the NAHB Federation, is a national leader for career training in the building industry. Through certification programs, HBI provides training, curriculum development and job placement services.
In October, NAHB celebrates Careers in Construction Month to increase public awareness about the trade professions available in residential construction. For in-person or virtual program ideas for your community, consult NAHB's Careers in Construction Month Toolkit
. NAHB will be sharing more information and ideas for activities in your local area throughout the month of October.
