Current students and recent graduates interested in green building and design can now apply for a scholarship to attend the International Builders’ Show (IBS), which will be held Feb. 8-10, 2022 in Orlando. IBS provides ample building science education, back-to-back live demonstrations within the High Performance Building Zone, networking and more.

NAHB’s Sustainability & Green Building Scholarship for IBS exposes students, recent graduates and young professionals looking to shift careers to the world of high-performance home building. Scholarship recipients will receive airfare (up to $600), hotel accommodations (four nights) and a full registration to maximize their experience with access to numerous networking events, education sessions and the latest products in the industry.

“The people I met at the conference were so welcoming and encouraging, and builders from all over gave me advice on advancing my career in the construction industry,” noted Jennifer Drew, a 2020 scholarship winner.

“It has been nothing but a pleasure meeting members in the field and building connections with everyone,” added 2021 scholarship recipient KiaLeigh Rickard-Urban, who was able to meet one on one with veterans virtually last year.

NAHB is looking for current students or those who have graduated within the past two years from a two- or four-year university or college, vocational apprenticeship, or other training program.

The application deadline has been extended to Sept. 30. You can still get involved even if you are not a student or recent graduate yourself:

  • Workforce development is a top priority for NAHB to help mitigate labor shortages within the industry, and scholarship opportunities such as this can help engage young professionals interested in green building. If you know someone interested in high-performance homes and sustainability building who could benefit from attending the 2022 IBS, encourage them to apply.
  • Share this opportunity on your social media channels, and tag #IBS2022 and #SGBscholarship.
  • Make a tax-deductible donation to help more students attend an in-person International Builders’ Show in the future. By sponsoring a student, your company can gain exposure through NAHB’s social media channels, recognition at IBS at committee meetings and in the High Performance Building Zone, and also make connections with and recruit skilled young workers.
