NAHB announced four recipients of its 2021 Sustainability and Green Building Scholarship, which provides an opportunity for students and recent graduates to participate free of charge in the 2021 International Builders' Show® virtual experience (IBSx)
, held Feb. 9-12.
The scholarship program was open to students or recent graduates in a two- or four-year college or university, vocational apprenticeship, or other training program who are interested in green building. Recipients will receive one full conference ticket for the four-day virtual event, which includes access to more than 100 education sessions and also to the virtual exhibit hall, showcasing the latest and most innovative home products and technologies. Additionally, scholarship recipients will have the chance to meet virtually one-on-one with veterans in the green building industry.
"We are pleased to announce this year's very worthy recipients of NAHB's Sustainability and Green Building scholarship program, and we look forward to welcoming these young professionals to IBSx, the premier event of the industry," said 2020 NAHB Sustainability and Green Building Subcommittee Chairman John Barrows. "This is an unbeatable experience for them to be introduced to the world of high-performance homes, learn from top professionals in the industry and make connections to jumpstart their careers."
Scholarships were awarded to:
- Shari Rauls of Dallas, Texas. Shari graduated in 2020 from Brown University with a degree in Architecture and Engineering. Currently, she is working with the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Garland through the AmeriCorps Year of Service program.
- Juan Reyes of Fort Worth, Texas. Juan holds his Real Estate License and is a member of the Metrotex Associate of Realtors.
- KiaLeigh Rickard-Urban of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. KiaLeigh is a student at Kirkwood Community College studying Interior Design.
- Mary Vasilevsky of Palm Coast, Fla. Mary is a recent graduate of the University of Florida, where she received her MDP in Sustainable Development Practice, a Certificate in Tropical Conservation and Development, and a Certificate in Environmental Education and Communication. She is currently the sustainability coordinator for Florida Green Construction.
