On the latest episode of the Housing Developments podcast, NAHB CEO Jerry Howard and Chief Lobbyist Jim Tobin look back at 2019. Tune in to hear about key policy wins from the year and where we’re headed in 2020.
NAHB had several advocacy wins this year and helped to move the needle on key issues that affect the building industry. Throughout 2019, the association focused on the housing affordability crisis, devoting resources to bringing the American dream of homeownership back within reach.
Our efforts also focused on pushing back against burdensome regulations and harmful policies like rent control
and excessive codes requirements
. This outreach was fueled by member engagement at the local, state and national level.
And in a victory for housing affordability, the Trump administration reached a deal
on the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement. Once ratified, this deal will help stabilize the cost of building materials necessary in the home building process, which will help decrease the cost of building and buying a home.
