2019 SAFE Award Winners Announced; See Them at IBS 2020

NAHB has named the recipients of the 14th annual NAHB/Builders Mutual Insurance Company Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE) for their commitment to strong safety programs. This year’s SAFE program honors the following individuals and companies that have worked to achieve exemplary safety and health programs in the residential construction industry. The winners will be honored at the 2020 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas next month in the IBS Jobsite Safety Zone. The 2019 SAFE Award winners: NAHB Safety Champion of the Year Jeff Eschliman, Maracay Homes – Scottsdale, Ariz. Job-Site Safety Institute Innovative Safety Idea of the Year Little Giant Ladders – Springville, Utah Leadership in Construction Safety Dr. Christine Branche, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health – Washington, D.C. Single Family Builder Safety Program of the Year (Fewer than 10 Homes Starts Per Year) Alan Shintani, Inc. – Waipahu, Hawaii Single Family Builder Safety Program of the Year (11-100 Home Starts Per Year) Sandcastle Homes, Inc. – Houston, Texas Single Family Builder Safety Program of the Year (100-500 Home Starts Per Year) Summit Homes – Lee's Summit, Mo. Single Family Builder Safety Program of the Year (500+ Homes Starts Per Year) Taylor Morrison – Sarasota, Fla. Multifamily Builder Safety Program of the Year (Fewer than 50 Employees) Holland Construction, Inc. – Denver Multifamily Builder Safety Program of the Year (More than 50 Employees) The NRP Group – Cleveland Associate Member Safety Program of the Year Iacoboni Site Specialists, Inc. – Baltimore Remodeler Safety Program of the Year Irons Brothers Construction – Shoreline, Wash. Specialty Trade Contractor Safety Program of the Year (Fewer than 50 Employees) Kirkwood Fence – Valley Park, Mo. Specialty Trade Contractor Safety Program of the Year (More than 50 Employees)* Comer Construction, Inc. – Forest Hill, Md. Baker Roofing Company – Raleigh, N.C. *Co-winners NAHB Student Chapter Safety Program of the Year Brigham Young University-Idaho – Rexburg, Idaho Siding Contractor Safety Program of the Year SouthEnd Exteriors – Charlotte, N.C. “It is exciting to see home building professionals dedicated to workplace safety receive such a prestigious honor,” said Bob Hanbury, NAHB Construction Safety and Health Committee chairman, Home Innovations Research Lab Chairman of the Board, and home remodeler from Newington, Conn. “I encourage all NAHB members to follow their lead in making safety a high priority and come to the IBS to learn how you can influence safety on your jobsites.” The winners will be honored during the SAFE Awards Spotlight at IBS 2020. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020, from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Jobsite Safety Zone on the show floor in the North Hall (booth N663).
