Young Professionals Week Kicks Off with #CICDAY2019

Student Chapters
Councils and Committees
Today is Careers in Construction Day, the first day of Young Professionals Week. YP Week was created last year to highlight local home builders association (HBA) young professional groups and activities, encourage local YP recruitment, and showcase the importance of membership and the positive impact that NAHB and HBA membership can have in the early stages of a home building career. The future leaders of NAHB and the home building industry are young professionals right now. Let’s make sure they have the support and resources they need to launch their careers or take the next big step up. There is so much planned for this week for young building professionals: daily video sessions, discounts on NAHB education, features on local young professionals, and more. Check out the event listing on Facebook for a schedule. (And while you’re there, check out the NAHB Young Professionals Group.) For more information on YP Week activities, download this helpful flyer or check social media for NAHB and local HBA activities under the tags #YPWEEK and #NAHBYP. Watch the video below and share it with members of your HBA: [bc_video video_id="6090983517001" account_id="260701690001" player_id="BJMWPKF2" embed="in-page" padding_top="56%" autoplay="" min_width="0px" max_width="600px" mute="" width="100%" height="100%" ] Speaking of hashtags, drop what you’re doing right now, get to a job site, take a picture or short video of yourself and post it to social media using the tag #CICDAY2019. Today is the second-annual Careers in Construction Day, where we encourage home builders, remodelers and Associate members to post pictures of themselves doing their normal work to provide students and others considering construction careers a glimpse into our daily lives. So many people simply don’t know what home building entails, and this is your chance to show them. Here are some ideas for effective posts on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and others:
  • A video of a trained worker using interesting tools or techniques
  • A picture of a sales manager at a home closing with customers realizing their dream of homeownership
  • A “day in the life” picture or video montage showing a typical day from start to finish
  • Pictures with valued suppliers and subcontractors, and any of the other great people that make this industry so rewarding
Last year’s Careers in Construction Day went very well, so let’s blow that one away this year. For questions about Careers in Construction Day or Month, contact Greg Zick. For questions about NAHB Young Professionals, contact Topher McLarty.
