Dan Markson, dedicated member from San Antonio and leader in the development of affordable housing, passed away May 4.
Markson was a Texas Association of Builders (TAB) Life Director, a Life Delegate on NAHB's Leadership Council, and active member of the Greater San Antonio Builders Association (GSABA) and NAHB’s Multifamily Council, where he served as a former chair."Dan was passionate about the builders association and served TAB, GSABA and NAHB for decades," said TAB Executive Director Scott Norman. "In service to TAB, Dan was a founding member of the Multifamily Council, HOMEPAC Trustee, Government Relations Committee member, Executive Committee member, Texas Housing Hall of Honor Board of Governor and Trustee of the Texas Builders Foundation."
Born in Boston, Markson earned his MBA from Babson College and served as executive vice president of The NRP Group, where he oversaw the development operations, including bond/tax credit and conventionally financed rental communities.
Markson also previously served as president of the Texas Affiliation of Affordable Housing Providers.
"Our hearts are broken with the passing of our long-time member and friend Dan Markson. Dan was a very involved member in the Greater San Antonio Builders Association and our local community," said Kristi Satterfield, executive vice president of GSABA. "He was instrumental in launching the first NAHB Student Chapter at St. Philip’s College, where he championed the construction trade programs. He truly made a difference in the political arena on the local, state and national levels."
In a statement, The NRP Group CEO J. David Heller said: "Dan delivered 30 years of unmatched creative leadership in affordable housing development and spearheaded the creation of over 20,000 apartment homes that changed the lives of families across Michigan, Florida, Louisiana, and in the past 16 years, over 17,000 apartment homes in Texas alone."
Markson is survived by his son, Maury John. Funeral services were held Monday in San Antonio.
