NAHB Members Honored for Their Efforts to End Homelessness

HomeAid Atlanta, a nonprofit dedicated to building new lives for homeless families and individuals, recently honored multiple NAHB members for their hard work and dedication to help end homelessness. The honorees were recognized during the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association’s Installation and Awards program on Jan. 17. The awards honor building industry organizations and individuals who demonstrate a deep commitment to HomeAid’s mission of building new lives for homeless families and individuals through housing and community outreach. [caption id="attachment_14161" align="alignright" width="150"] Dan and Kathy O’Dwyer[/caption] Builder of the Year. Dan O’Dwyer of O’Dwyer Properties was a volunteer builder captain for a major renovation project to create a long-term housing solution called Drake Village in Roswell. The project increased the housing capacity for women with children experiencing homelessness. Previously, O’Dwyer led a total renovation of two eight-unit apartment buildings for HomeAid. [caption id="attachment_14163" align="alignleft" width="150"] Anne DeLorenzo and Jean Hilyard, HomeAid director of shelter development[/caption] Volunteer of the Year. Anne DeLorenzo of Paran Homes successfully garnered support for several fundraising initiatives. DeLorenzo and her team at Paran Homes donated materials and mentored Kennesaw State University  construction students as they built a children’s playhouse to raise funds for HomeAid. She also has been a longtime supporter of HomeAid’s annual Essentials Drive to collect donations of baby supplies for Atlanta’s homeless babies and their families. [caption id="attachment_14162" align="alignright" width="150"] Ronnie Gullatt on behalf of BMC and HomeAid's 2019 Board President Shane Roach[/caption] Trade Partner of the Year. BMC – Building Materials & Construction Solutions both donated and extended generous discounts on lumber and other materials for nearly every HomeAid build project. BMC also provided in-kind maintenance and repairs for nonprofit organizations that work directly with people experiencing homelessness. HomeAid has completed over 100 housing, remodel and care day projects serving victims of domestic violence, teen mothers and veterans. The nonprofit is the designated charity of the Greater Atlanta HBA.
