Addressing the Supply Chain Crisis

In a blow to housing affordability and a move strongly opposed by NAHB, the Commerce Department recently moved forward in doubling tariffs on Canadian lumber to nearly 18%. NAHB is urging the Biden administration to suspend these tariffs and pursue a balanced, long-term trade agreement to help stabilize lumber prices and supply.

Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) and Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) sent a letter to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo to stress the damaging effects higher lumber tariffs will have on the housing industry, as well as many sectors of the economy still in recovery.
