COVID-19 Vaccine Awareness Week in Construction

Vaccine Awareness Week in Construction, April 19-23, 2021, is a campaign to raise awareness of the safety, effectiveness, and benefits of COVID-19 vaccination among construction workers. The CDC recommends that all workers in the U.S. get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as they are eligible to end the pandemic and help Americans return to their normal lives.

NAHB supports the CDC’s vaccination efforts and we are encouraging members to participate in COVID-19 Vaccine Awareness Week. Home builders should take time to share important information with their trade contractors, partners, subcontractors, and their own staff about the benefits of vaccination and encourage them to register to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Are the COVID-19 vaccines safe?

Some people may be concerned about getting vaccinated now that COVID-19 vaccines are available in the United States. The CDC acknowledges that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. Millions of people have received COVID-19 vaccines under the most intense safety monitoring in U.S. history. The CDC recommends you get a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as you are eligible. Why should workers get the COVID-19 vaccine?

COVID-19 vaccines teach our immune systems how to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19. According to the CDC, all COVID-19 vaccines currently available in the United States are effective at preventing COVID-19 and help protect people who get vaccinated from getting sick or severely ill with COVID-19 and may also help protect people around them. When will I be able to get the vaccine?

CDC makes recommendations for who should get the vaccine first and then each state makes their own plan. Other essential workers, such as people who work in housing construction and finance, are a priority in Phase 1c. To find out when you’ll be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine in your location, check with your state’s health department. Once you are registered, you can use VaccineFinder.org to find a specific vaccination spot.

I’ve been fully vaccinated, now what?

COVID-19 vaccines are effective at protecting you from getting sick. Based on information from the CDC describing what is known about COVID-19 vaccines, people who have been fully vaccinated can start to do some things that they had stopped doing because of the pandemic.
