He started Schickel Construction Company in 1985, specializing in residential and light commercial work. Bruno's innovative cottage community, Boiceville Cottages, consists of 140 small rental cottages, which he designed and built near Ithaca, NY. This project has been recognized for its appealing, whimsical design, and energy efficiency. He has been president of the local Builders Association as well as president of the New York State Builders Association, and a National vice president for NAHB. Bruno is descended from a long line of architects and builders, dating back to 1870, when his grandfather, Wilhelm Schickel, immigrated from Germany and very quickly built the largest architectural firm in New York City, building more than 160 buildings in Manhattan alone.
