Richard M. Guerard is an attorney who has been active in the real estate industry for 35 years. He earned his J.D. degree (with distinction) from John Marshall Law School and a BS in Finance from Northern Illinois University.
He is a partner in the law firm of Guerard, Kalina & Butkus in Wheaton, Illinois, concentrating in real estate and land development law. He is a past President of the DuPage County Bar Association and of the Attainable Housing Alliance (AHA). He served on Illinois State Bar Association's Real Estate Law Section Council (1979-86, 2011-16). Member of Attorney and Broker Committees for ISBA section council and Committee for DCBA (2011-16); Member, DuPage County Bar Association Real Estate Law Committee (1979-2016), Chairman (1981-1982); Member Illinois Supreme Court Special Committee on Foreclosures (2011-16), Member, Attorneys' Title Guaranty Fund, Inc.
He has represented clients on more than 200 zoning matters in 50 municipalities or counties. He has managed development of 30 projects and the building 850 homes in the northern Illinois area. He is a past president and current director of the Home Builders Association of Greater Fox Valley, a director of the Northern Illinois Home Builders Association and a past director of Home Builders Association of Illinois. He has served on varies education, legislation and Board governance committees for these associations.
He is an instructor for the NAHB University of Housing Graduate Master Builder program and has been a frequent speaker at more than 150 seminars for professional associations on real estate law, banking, finance, development, home building and related topics. Richard resides with his family in Naperville and has his offices in Wheaton and Bartlett, Illinois.
