This Midwest timber frame home mixes modern architectural design with contemporary farmhouse charm. To best benefit the lifestyle of the home owners, the layout was designed with four primary focal points. The first is the wide-open shared space containing the great room, dining area and kitchen. The entire space faces out toward the farmland, connecting them organically to their property. Like many families today, the outdoor spaces were important. The open interior flows naturally out to the outdoor living area, which gives the family plenty of room for entertaining. An additional covered porch below extends from the family room in the basement. The third focal point is utility space. To maintain the view corridors behind the house, the oversized butler's pantry and multiuse mudroom are tucked in behind the large open space. Finally, the bedrooms are a bit smaller than a typical home of this size, but this, too, fits with the needs of the family, who plan to spend the bulk of their time together amongst the larger shared spaces.
