Federal Regulatory Reform

President Obama’s Executive Order (E.O.) on reducing unnecessary federal regulations requires federal agencies to examine existing federal regulations and determine if any add costs but do not achieve intended results. Under the E.O. the President directs all federal regulations to be cost-effective, transparent, coordinated, flexible, and science-driven. This E.O. applies to most federal agencies, but not all federal agencies. Each federal agency must conduct a review of existing rules to identify regulations that may be outmoded, ineffective, insufficient, or excessively burdensome. The E.O. also requires federal agencies to develop a preliminary plan for how each Agency will conduct such a review and submit that plan to the White House’s Office of Management and Budget. NAHB recognizes the significant economic impact federal regulations have upon NAHB members and has submitted comments to various federal agencies indentifying specific federal regulations that warrant review.
