CC&S Mission The committee advocates for cost-effective and affordable building codes, standards and regulations, as well as state and federal legislation governing residential construction, and it assists HBAs in adopting and amending codes and standards at the state and local levels. It advises and directs staff and members in the implementation of NAHB policy as it relates to structural design, energy conservation, fire safety, electrical, plumbing, heating, cooling and ventilation systems, accessibility, building materials, disaster mitigation and green building. It appoints ad hoc work groups to advise staff on positions to advocate in response to proposed amendments to codes and standards, and advises on amendments to propose and advocate on behalf of NAHB.
The committee also recommends NAHB members to represent builders' interests on International Code Council (ICC) code development committees and directs NAHB's participation in codes and standards development activities of organizations such as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) among others.
