Bernie Markstein is the Staff Vice President for Economics at the National Association of Home Builders, responsible for economic analysis and forecasting. He has over 25 years experience in consulting, financial services, and academia analyzing, interpreting, and forecasting economic and housing data. Prior to joining NAHB in 2004, Mr. Markstein ran his own economic consulting firm, Markstein Advisors. Before that, Mr. Markstein was Chief Economist for Meridian Bancorp, Inc. Mr. Markstein has also held positions as manager of the Financial Forecasting Service for Chase Econometrics (now Global Insight, Inc.), and as Assistant Professor at Temple University's Department of Finance in the School of Business
Gopal Ahluwalia is the Staff Vice-President for Research at the National Association of Home Builders, Economics Department. He is responsible for the coordination of departmental economic research and for all NAHB statistical and economic research needs. Mr. Ahluwalia has over 26 years of experience in survey design, questionnaire development, economic analysis, forecasting, and the collection, analysis, and presentation of data. He has extensively researched consumer preferences for features, design, and products in new homes. He has been tracking the changing profile and structure of the residential construction industry and the use of technology in home building. He has been widely quoted in the media. He holds a Statisticians Diploma from the India Statistical Institute in Calcutta, and a M.A. in mathematics with training in operations research and economics analysis.
