Federal Programs-Housing Affordability
Traditional and Low Income Programs

Federal programs for housing affordability run the gamut from the traditional funding program for persons of lower income levels (typically 80 percent  and less) that are funded through such programs as HOMEHOPE VI and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) programs through the Department of Housing and Urban Development, to innovative proposals such as the Employer Assisted Housing proposal, which is currently a proposed Senate and House Bill, to encourage employers to provide homeowner assistance to their employees by offering additional tax benefits to those employers. Employers such as AFLAC insurance company have already initiated their own programs to take advantage of current tax incentives and to create a more productive work environment. The search engine at www.hud.gov details most federal programs that promote homeownership.
