Congressional In-District Work Weeks

Purpose

In an effort to capitalize on the U.S. House of Representatives' "In-District Work Weeks" this year, NAHB is calling on all HBAs to rally their builders, remodelers and associates to organize face-to-face meetings with their Congressmen to discuss topics of importance to the home building industry – back home.

Role

Start by building a relationship with the staff members in your district. They need to know how important housing is to the nation’s economy – and it’s up to you to get the information out there. Then, set up a meeting with your Congressman or invite them to an HBA event (see "Event Ideas" below).

Event Ideas

  • Arrange a private tour of one of your members’ green homes
  • Ask your legislators to speak at an HBA breakfast event
  • Organize a "Bring Your Member to Work Day" by visiting a job site with them
  • Before your next general membership meeting, purchase a hard hat and pass it around the meeting for your members to sign their names. You’ll have a hat full of signatures – and a good reason for a quick visit to your Representative with a delegation of leading members of your HBA.
