Statement from NAHB Chairman Granger MacDonald Regarding U.S. Forest Management

June 02, 2017

Granger MacDonald, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and a home builder and developer from Kerrville, Texas, issued the following statement regarding today’s speech on U.S. forest management by Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue and Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke:

“NAHB commends Agriculture Secretary Perdue and Interior Secretary Zinke for putting forth thoughtful policy proposals to manage our nation’s national forests by coordinating with state and local governments and communities. The U.S. does not produce enough lumber to meet domestic demand, which puts upward pressure on housing prices. This, among other reasons, is why it is important to pursue policies to better utilize our own natural resources in an environmentally sustainable way. A balanced and responsible approach to U.S. forest management would keep our nation’s wood resources healthy and resilient while also boosting housing affordability and job and economic growth. We will continue to work with the Trump administration to enact policies that will best manage our public lands.”
