The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has named three innovative, new home building products as Global Innovation Award winners for 2016.
The makers of an educational course series on indoor air quality (Wellness Within Your Walls in Atlanta), exterior-wall insulation technology (Timber Block in Connelly Springs, N.C.) and an electric fireplace (Dimplex North America in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada) were recognized during a special ceremony at the 2017 International Builders’ Show® in Orlando, Fla.
Indoor air quality is important for health and comfort, but especially to people with respiratory disease or immune deficiencies. Wellness Within Your Walls is a four-course series for builders, developers, real estate brokers, architects, land planners, interior designers, engineers and consumers that teaches ways to improve indoor air quality and the types of building materials to use in that effort.
“Wellness Within Your Walls has created an innovative and well-conceived, common-sense approach to environmental education,” said Patrick Coveny, president of Architecture Construction Management and an NAHB Global Opportunities board member. “When the lessons are applied, they can have a significant impact on the quality of indoor air and the environment.”
Timber Block log home construction company was honored for its patented R-36 insulated exterior wall technology. The technology achieves unusually high energy efficiency and also improves sound insulation while maintaining the look of the log structure.
“Timber Block has designed, created and installed building technology that improves energy conservation, cost savings and indoor comfort,” Coveny said. “The technology is a significant advance in log home construction.”
Revillusions by Dimplex North America is an electric fireplace designed to replicate the bright, realistic look of flames, which illuminate the full firebox and create a pleasing sense of depth.
“The Dimplex North America Revillusions electric fireplace is masonry in appearance and cost effective while providing heat and comfort,” said S. Robert August, president of North Star Synergies and an NAHB Global Opportunities board member. “It provides an aesthetically pleasing electric replacement for masonry-built fireplace at a fraction of the cost.”
The GIA award annually recognizes cutting-edge, advanced and original products or marketing strategies by global or domestic NAHB member companies: developers, builders, subcontractors, remodelers and lenders that offer products or services to consumers.
The NAHB Global Opportunities Board, which oversees the awards program, is a collaborative of NAHB international experts dedicated to improving relationships and developing business opportunities. An independent panel of judges chose the winning companies, looking for the best combination of design, functionality, innovation and usefulness to builders and consumers.
