NAHB Announces Builder, Community of the Year in Best of 55+ Housing Awards

January 11, 2017

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) named Renaissance Luxury Living at Sun Lakes the 2017 Community of the Year and its builder, Robson Resort Communities, the 2017 Builder of the Year, as part of the Best of 55+ Housing Awards. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the awards program.

The annual awards program, held during the 2017 NAHB International Builders’ Show® in Orlando, Fla. honors excellence and innovation in the design, development, lifestyle and marketing of homes that appeal to the mature market.

“Renaissance Luxury Living at Sun Lakes brings elegant, active senior living with a continuum of care,” said Karen Schroeder, chair of the Best of 55+ Housing Awards and vice president of Mayberry Homes in Lansing, Mich. “In this project, Robson Resort Communities has beautifully combined the feel of an upscale desert resort with the comforts and security that enhance seniors’ ability to enjoy life to the fullest.”

Located in Sun Lakes, Ariz., 24 miles from Phoenix, the community has 106 units that offer the full continuum of senior lifestyle options, from independent living apartments to assisted living and memory care. The development was so popular that there was a waiting list before construction was complete. It is on target to be 90 percent occupied within six months of opening.

The building’s architecture reflects and reveals the surrounding desert setting. Inside, residences with large floor plans and luxury finishes are designed for elegance and convenience. No-threshold doors, motion-sensitive lighting in bathrooms, walk-in tubs and roll-in showers enhance freedom of movement and convenient daily living.

A dining room with patio and full-service bar, a large-screen movie theater designed for easy access by those using walkers and wheelchairs, a resort-style pool with cabanas and motorized lift chair, a state-of-the-art fitness center, enclosed courtyard with gazebo and walking path around the building’s exterior all support an active, engaged lifestyle.

With locations around Arizona and Texas, Robson Resort Communities focuses on the upscale segment of the retirement market, and is committed to building, developing and managing retirement communities for long-term sustainability.

The firm has worked to develop creative floor plans that offer flexibility and exteriors that reflect a variety of architectural styles that enrich neighborhoods. Among the senior housing trends the company is moving into are multi-generational living options, and “lock and leave” single-level villas. Robson also partners with other companies to increase energy efficiency and smart home technology.

The Best of 55+ Housing Awards program is sponsored by American Bath Group, Barton Partners, BSB Design, Builders Design, Homeward Bath, Ideal-LIVING, KTGY Architecture + Planning, Professional Builder, Progress Lighting and RMF.
