Awards Program Description and Benefits of Entering:
The purpose of this awards program is to recognize the achievements of builders and trade contractors who have developed and implemented high quality construction safety programs, as well as honoring those government officials and NAHB-affiliated associations who have made successful efforts to advance safety in the home building industry.

The NAHB Safety Award For Excellence (SAFE) recognizes member companies, workers, and other individuals for the excellent safety programs that make them leaders in the residential construction industry.

ALL entries must be submitted ONLINE by November 18, 2009.
Will your company be among the 2009 honorees? Nominations and call for entrants will open October 5, 2009 for the following categories:
- Single Family Builder Safety Program of the Year: You must be a NAHB member (or an employee of a member company) to both nominate an individual and be selected to win.
Applicants in this award category consist of general contractors engaged in construction of new single-family homes and townhomes, within the following size categories:
- Less than 10 home starts per year
- 11 to 100 home starts per year
- Greater than 100 homes but less than 500 homes
- Greater than 500 homes
Specialty Trade Contractor Safety Program of the Year: Non-members may nominate an individual and be selected to win.
Applicants in this award category consist of specialty trade contractors engaged in home construction work, including but not limited to the following: carpenters; roofers; plumbers; heating/ventilation/air conditioning; electricians; painters; masons; stucco; drywallers; excavators; flooring; siders; and foundation and concrete work.
- Less than 50 employees
- Greater than 50 employees
Remodeler Safety Program of the Year: You must be a NAHB member (or an employee of a member company) to both nominate an individual and be selected to win.
Applicants in this award category consist of firms engaged in improving, remodeling, and repairing existing homes.
Light Commercial Contractor Safety Program of the Year: You must be a NAHB member (or an employee of a member company) to both nominate an individual and be selected to win.
Applicants in this award category consist of general contractors engaged in construction of commercial buildings, including but not limited to the following: self-storage facilities; strip malls; office buildings; mixed-use developments; community centers; and schools.
- Less than 50 employees
- Greater than 50 employees
Multifamily Safety Program of the Year: You must be a NAHB member (or an employee of a member company) to both nominate an individual and be selected to win.
Applicants in this award category consist of firms engaged in construction of multi-family dwellings, included but not limited to the following: garden apartments; mid-rise apartments; high-rise apartments; condominiums; hotels; and mixed-use communities.
- Innovative Safety Program/Idea of the Year: Non-members may nominate an individual and be selected to win.
Applicants for this award category consist of an idea, product, service, or program that has contributed towards advancing safety in the home building industry.
- NAHB Safety Professional of the Year: You must be a NAHB member (or an employee of a member company) to both nominate an individual and be selected to win.
Applicants in this award category consist of persons who have made a unique and special effort to advance safety in the home building industry.
- Associate Member Safety Program of the Year: You must be a NAHB member (or an employee of a member company) to both nominate an individual and be selected to win.
Applicants in this award category consist of firms engaged in business related to the construction or remodeling of single-family homes and townhomes.
- NAHB-Affiliated Association Safety Program of the Year: You must be a NAHB member (or an employee of a member company) to both nominate an individual and be selected to win.
Applicants in this award category consist of NAHB-affiliated state or local Association that have made unique efforts to advance safety in the home building industry.
- Federal and State Plan OSHA Official of the Year: Only NAHB-Affiliated Associations may nominate an individual.
Applicants in this award category consist of Federal or State Plan OSHA officials and staff who have made unique efforts to advance safety in the home building industry.

We’ll celebrate the award winners’ success at the NAHB Safety Award For Excellence (SAFE) Banquet on January 20, 2010 (this is a tentative date and is subject to change) in Las Vegas, NV as a part of the 2010 International Builders’ Show.
